Welcome to Paul Cooper: Garden Designer

Artist and garden designer Paul Cooper has established an extensive and highly acclaimed portfolio of private and commercial gardens designs, 'show' gardens, sculpture and environmental art.

In garden design he has gained a reputation for his innovative and often radical approach. His aim, since turning to garden design in 1984, has been to emphasize the art of the garden rather than the craft of gardening, to make gardens that respond to the issues of today's lifestyle and reflect the spirit of contemporary art and design. He has frequently redefined the garden, adding adjectives such as instant, portable, re-usable, multi-storey, and pre-fabricated to the description of a garden.

Paul Cooper is best known for his urban gardens and the number of successful projects he has completed for private clients is testimony to the demand for his imaginative and alternative ideas. Recently his work attracted the interest of the London based architects, The Crawford Partnership. Now working together on a number of joint projects, Alan Crawford and Paul Cooper are dedicated to developing new ways of integrating the garden and architecture. See News Page

New challenges always interest Paul Cooper and his background in sculpture has proved useful in his recent commissions to create interactive, sensory gardens for specialist need care homes. See our new Specialist Need Gardens page

Paul Cooper has created numerous award-winning festival and show gardens, some of which have courted controversy. Many of the ideas that he introduced into his domestic garden designs started life as ' Show Gardens ', which provided early opportunities for experimentation. Companies, including the Ford Motor Company, have been eager to enlist Paul Cooper and to sponsor his show gardens, aware of the positive media attention they attract.

Sculpture, site-specific artworks and installations complete the portfolio - a body of work, which is supported by the publication of four books on gardens, sculpture and design.
